I definately prefered "Deception On His Mind" over just about everything except "A Great Deliverence" and "For the Sake of Elena".

I'm not sure that a romantic interest for Havers would work too well, it would have to be done very carefully or the character could be seriously damaged. I'd like to Nkata's character expanded more though, it was good to see him in "In Pursuit of the Proper Sinner"

Do any of you other Elizabeth George fans remember the death of Haver's mother in a previous novel - Deception on His Mind or Presence of the Enemy? Or am I confused?

My three special angels.....

I just finished IN PURSUIT OF THE PROPER SINNER. It was excellent. I could not put it down. There were times when I wanted to throttle Tommy. He was such a pompous jerk. I did read DECEPTION ON HIS MIND and knew what Barbara did at the end, however, it seemed to me the right thing to do at the time, that I did not imagine for one minute she would get in trouble over it. Silly fool, me. I sometimes forget about beauracracy (forgive my spelling).

However, I highly recommend this latest of E. George's works. Carol

To Benna #46 RE: Barbara's mother

WARNING * PLOT ELEMENTS REVEALED!!

Barbara's father died at the end of "Well-Schooled in Murder." Barbara's mother has Alzheimer's Disease and Barb's struggle to care for her at home after her father's death are dealt with in "For the Sake of Elena." Mrs. Havers is alive and living with a woman who cares for about four elderly patients.

Yes, I too have read her latest book. It's my first introduction to her work. What amazes me is the details and the characters that are cramped into those 600+ pages--it's amazing! I am definitely am going to read more of hers.

I would imagine that everyone has already gone to Elizabeth George's own website..it is very good. It's at, www.elizabethgeorgeonline.com . Ijust discovered her work and find her very very impressive. Yet, very intense, so that after reading one of her books, I have t go and almost de-brief myself! I will read something by another author, then go back ...she is my favorite modern mystery writer, to date.

I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THE WORKS OF ELIZABETH GEORGE. HOWEVER I AM VERY CONFUSED. I STARTED WITH "A SUITABLE VENGEANCE", COPYWRITE 1991 . I LOVED IT. WHILE TALKING WITH A FRIEND WHO ALSO JUST STARTED READING HER BOOKS I WAS TOLD THE BOOK SHE JUST READ WAS A 1989 ONE. PAYMENT IN BLOOD. THEREFORE I TAKE IT TO BE WRITTEN BEFORE THE ONE I READ. IN MINE, ST.JAMES AND DEBORAH BECOME LOVERS FOR LIFE AFTER SHE BREAKS AN ENGAGEMENT TO LYNLEY......IN PAYMENT IN BLOOD, SHE AND ST.JAMES ARE ALREADY MARRIED, YET IT HAS A 1989 PUBLICATION DATE. I JUST DON'T GET IT...CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN ???? THANK YOU....

I love Elizabeth George and I have really been missing her characters lately. Does anyone know when the next one is coming out? I read the recent one about why the boy shot Helen, but it really did not have the characters I miss in it.

Just wanted to let Elizabeth George fans know her new book, "Careless in Red" will be out(I believe)May 6, 2008. Also, if anyone is interested, her books had been produced into a television series entitled "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries" starring Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small by the BBC and shown on PBS stations here in the U.S. and are available on DVD. Sadly, it was cancelled last year, but there are two remaining episodes to be shown on PBS sometime this year. Cheers to all.

You can check out anytime you like...but you can never leave!

Careless in Red:

Lynley discovers the body of a young man who appears to have fallen to his death. The closest town, better known for its tourists and its surfing than its intrigue, seems an unlikely place for murder. However, it soon becomes apparent that a clever killer is indeed at work, and this time Lynley is not a detective but a witness and possibly a suspect.
