You can check out anytime you like...but you can never leave!

This is a new author to me - coming from Maine, I am curious to see how it is portrayed in this series.

Sarah Graves lives with her husband John, a musician and luthier, (another new word for me, Kermit! - Luthier - One that makes or repairs stringed instruments, such as violins) and their black Labrador Retriever in a house very much like the one Jacobia Tiptree is remodeling in Eastport, Maine. When she's not writing Jake's adventures, Sarah works with her husband on the house (of course!) and she plays the 5-string banjo ( not well, but enthusiastically!)

Titles in the series include:

UNHINGED
THE DEAD CAT BOUNCE
TRIPLE WITCH
WICKED FIX
REPAIR TO HER GRAVE
WRECK THE HALLS

Having a hard time finding time to read, but I will say that this grabs your right from the first paragraph - what an opening! Hope I can finish this up this week.

How are others enjoying it so far?

Started the book, had to leave for the weekend...and finished it today! I must first say, I usually do not like starting a series down the line, in other words...not knowing some of the nuances between characters or their history. The book was an easy read. I'd pretty much worked out the whodunnit, but not necessarily all the "why." For those who enjoy mysteries, along with do-it-yourself ventures...this will be a good book.

I would like to also add...that I appreciate Ms. Graves sparse use of crude language which I feel adds little to no value to a story whatsoever. The use of themes...in this case "home repair/improvement" seems to be a booming business in the world of mystery novels, and I believe this author has found her niche quite nicely.

I really liked the book. She captures the flavor of the communities she writes about, even if it is vastly different from the rest of Maine! I am interested to find out how the sleuthing partnership will change with a new baby in the picture!

I'm wondering who will get the little darling, baby's first tool belt!
