How do you work the generator? I know the order of the levers but it doesn't work. Do you push the yellow button before or after pulling the levers? HELP!

I can't get into the studio, the powers guy won't even let me into the office and at Mattie's house my friends can't help me and I can't find any clue there, please HELP me.
