Post-n-Solve
Common Bonds
Created by Tuppence, additional material by Stevie B
In this Post and Solve, the host will post as many as 5 items that have a common bond. The solution will be the common bond between the items.
Example:
Leonard
Julius
Adolf
Herbert
Milton
Solution: They are all the first names of the Marx Brothers
A variant of this game is the Odd One Out. As the name suggests, the hosts posts a list of up to 5 items, one of which is of course the odd one out. It is for the host to decide what information is required from the players to completely solve the puzzle. Generally, this will be which one is the odd one out, what the others have in common, and why the odd one out doesn't fit in the category.
Please indicate if you are hosting an Odd One Out or a standard Common Bond. Extra hints can be given by adding things to the list that do or do not fit the bond. The first player to find the bond wins the next turn.
Another alternative way of playing this game is giving two numbered lists of 4 to 8 items. Each of the items in one list ties up with one of the items in the other list. The host does not need to say how the two sets of items link to each other and may choose to save that information for a clue for later on. The first player to link the next to last items (leaving the logical last two) wins the next turn.
Example:
1. London
2. Paris
3. Madrid
4. Stockholm
5. Oslo
|
|
A. Sweden
B. Spain
C. United Kingdom
D. Norway
E. France
|
Solution:1C – 2E – 3B – 4A – 5D: European capital cities and their countries.
All the usual P&S guidelines apply. These Tips and Resources can help you to create a new puzzle. If you have questions regarding hosting and posting, check out the FAQ. Have fun!
