A Quiet Belief in Angels
Author: R. J. Mallory
Published in the US in 2009 by The Overlook Press
Suggested retail price: $24.95 (Hardcover)
It is hard for me to put into words how much I enjoyed this book. It was at once, intelligent, gut wrenching and made me think of books like The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird and other great works of literature. It brought out in me a sense of nostalgia for a time period that begins even before I was born. When you consider the subject matter, the brutal killings of young girls over a time span of 30 years, it is amazing that I can call this a beautiful book. But that is exactly what it is.
From the very beginning, you are drawn into the world of Joseph Vaughn and his obsession over the child killings. You will be guessing until the denouement and will be dreading the outcome as your suspicion increases throughout the book.
This is the author's first release in the U.S. I look forward to the release of more of his work here in the U.S.
