The year is 1960 and Hitchcock is at work on his masterpiece Psycho. The story revolves around the body double for Janet Leigh in the famous shower scene, a young starlet named Marli Renfro. A series of grizzly murders, eerily similar to the plot of Psycho are occurring during the same time period.
The story moves back and forth between the filming of Psycho and the murders and the author takes us backstage with lots of insider trivia on the making of the movie and the shower scene in particular. As the murders continue, Marli becomes unwittingly entangled in a cloud of mystery, as she seemingly disappears and is reported to have been killed.
Is Marli a victim of the "Psycho Killer"? You are going to have to wait until the ending to find out, but you will have fun reading this look inside the early days of Hollywood and the beginnings of the now famous Vegas Strip.
Robert Graysmith is the New York Times bestselling author of The Laughing Gorilla, Zodiac, The Sleeping Lady, Auto Focus, Unabomber and The Bell Tower.
