"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." ... Albert Einstein
This is another masterpiece by Alpert. Although this book might be considered a sequel, it is not necessary to read his first novel before this one. They each easily stand alone very well. His novel in 2008, Final Theory set the stage for the telling of this truly fascinating story of a young man with a brilliant mind, dealing with autism and with the distinction of being a true descendant of Einstein himself!
This young man, Michael Gupta, holds this highly sought after Omega Theory in his mind. In true technological thrillers style, Alpert teases and seduces the reader into following frantically as Michael is kidnapped by truly sadistic followers of a group determined to unlock the real Omega Theory no matter the cost to Michael, the country, the world, indeed, the universe is even at risk of annihilation if this "doomsday" theory is unlocked and put into action.
These fanatics who call themselves "the True Believers" follow their self professed Messiah who will stop at nothing to cleanse the earth in her "re-birth" in a second "Big Bang". The illusive and dangerous facts are hidden away inside Michael's autistic mind. His best hope is his adoptive parents, both brilliant scientists in their own circles, who have joined with amazingly highly-skilled FBI agents who drive on relentlessly through many countries and many page turning chases. But will they get to their son and thwart this evil cult before they can discover the secret to "the Omega Theory" and they bring about what they believe is our imminent destination ... the coming apocalypse and the reward of Heaven for all the "True Believers"? This book gives the reader that most satisfying extra ... "bad guys to hate and an angel to love"!
I truly enjoyed this book and am thrilled that I have a new favorite writer. I always like to compare writers to other well known authors to give you a sense of their style. Alpert is right up their with Michael Crichton in my opinion. He brings so much excitement and believability to this story that it is easy for the reader to suspend belief and accept the idea of total obliteration of our solar system. Alpert managed to take the reader through many avenues to bring his book to life ... he pursues all areas of science, religion, terrorism and radical thinking to give us a well thought out, well written truly mind blowing thriller. This would make a great Summer Must Read or a gift to that "science geek" or mystery thriller book lover!
About the Author:
Mark Alpert is a self professed "geek" who is a graduate of Princeton and works with the "Scientific American" where he is very skilled in taking "geek" talk and making it understandable to the common reader. He has sold the movie rights to "Final Theory" and I definitely see this one becoming a blockbuster hit movie as well. He resides in Manhattan with his wife and children, where I hope he is hard at work on his next novel.
