Do you remember what it was like to ride that first roller coaster?, or go through that first Haunted House of Horror? Or the first time you sat through a movie that had you so enthralled that you forgot to eat your popcorn and you came out of the theatre still saying “Wow!” and spent the next 2 hours discussing all the twists and turns to verify that you got it all figured out? WELL … that is the closest I can get to telling you what it was like for me as I picked up this unfamiliar writer’s debut novel. I was all “Okay David show me what you got.” And Oh My, did he!
This excellently written story opens up on the innocent setting of a 16 year old girl having to have emergency surgery after a car accident and this mysterious hero is, in her words, a “George Clooney looking” surgeon … but is he to be trusted or feared? A few time jumps later the reader is basically forced to try to keep up with the players in a wild ride through this clever tale of conflicting and dangerous lies, crime, death, dark secrets, perversions, and shocking revelations. I dare you to read this book and tell me that you have it all figured out!! No way!
At times, I honestly had to close the book and just think and try to remember all the subtle clues, how they fit together and every time I thought I had it figured out Carnoy threw me more curves … I never once felt like I had this figured out, not with any confidence anyway! If you want to be swept away and have your sleuthing skills challenged this is the book for you. To call this one a “page turner” is an understatement … I actually got paper cuts rushing through the pages to the most satisfying ending you could have asked for … and not to be content with that, Carnoy just cannot resist throwing in another twist on the very last page! You will not be disappointed with “Knife Music”.

Like myself you might have seen this brilliant writer on CNN and not realized who he is. He is often interviewed as a tech expert due to his being an executive editor for CBS Interactive. Carnoy originally self published this exciting “first novel” on Amazon as a POD download but word of this thriller caught the attention of The Overlook Press and they very smartly put this book out there available to us who love Mystery Novels and this one is a true success! Carnoy lives in New York with his wife and children and I hope fervently that he is finishing work on his second novel … David, you have a devoted fan in me.
