Tell It With Lyrics/Lyrics Challenge

Ever had a moment when you're listening to a song on the radio and suddenly your mind wanders down another musical track because of a word you heard? That's the story here...leaping from song to song based on free association of words.

The rule is to include the previous challenge word in your post, and then provide a new challenge word. Both words (the one from the previous post and your new challenge word) must be in boldface. Use song lyrics, advertisers slogans or anything heard on TV, radios etc. The excerpt of the chosen lyrics must be at least 4 words long. Don't forget to put the source from where the text was taken in italics at the bottom.

Optionally, a player can elect to use a phrase as a challenge, rather than just a word. For example, you might want to use to more difficult-to-find phrase "Whatever will be," rather than the relatively generic and simple "be." In all cases, the challenge should be in boldface.

It is also permissible to match the challenge word to a piece of another word, such as:

Challenge word: Night

New Post: Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation (Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Music of the Night)

or even:

Challenge word: Hair

New Post: Well, excuse me, but I think you've got my chair (George Strait: The Chair)

Archaic, obscure, technical, medical or strange words that might actually exist in only one song (including proper names) are not generally permitted. If a plaver does use one, other players can challenge him or her to show a song where the same word or phrase is also located. This is known as "appealing." To appeal, the player calling for the appeal must post the word "Appeal" in boldface at the beginning of his or her post.

Example of Appeal:

I found my thrill
On Blueberry Hill (Fats Domino: Blueberry Hill)

Appeal: I can't think of another song that has "Blueberry Hill" in it. Name one.

If the owner of the previous post can successfully identify another song (and not just the same song by a different artist!) with the challenge word or phrase, the challenge stands. Otherwise, the previous challenge word is now in play.

There are no restrictions on Internet usage for this game, as remembering all the lyrics to whatever songs you might have happened to hear over the years is unlikely at best.

Now looking back over the years,
And what ever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old,
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand, why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart
So badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again , naturally

Another belief of mine: that everyone else my age is an adult, whereas I am merely in disguise (Margaret Atwood)

If i was left to my own devices
I wouldn't go out in the rain
If i was in a room with all of my vices
You’d never see me again
You sing 'cause you’re loosing
The last threads of night
There’s no time for dancing
But maybe you might

Maybe baby, I'll have you
Maybe baby, you'll be true
Maybe baby, I'll have you for me

It's funny honey, you don't care
You never listen, to my prayer
Maybe baby, you will love me some day

For all you lovers out there ... as a special treat ... this day ...

My funny Valentine, sweet comic Valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet, you're my favorite work of art

State, state, state, state of the art
Now we don't want to go out
When we could spend the night at home with the Cotillion
Invite the neighbours around
Start the bossanova beat and limbo from the living to the kitchen

Gotye, "State of the Art"

Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen
Warm my mind near your gentle stove
Turn me out and I'll wander baby
Stumblin' in the neon groves

Well the clock says it's time to close now
I know I have to go now
I really want to stay here
All night, all night, all night

You are to me
Deeper than souls
Pushed in the ground
Time is a clock
That pushed us together
Makes us feel old
Makes us feel old
Sound pushing down
Sound pushed us down

Down in the boondocks
Down in the boondocks
People put me down 'cause
That's the side of town I was born in

I love her she loves me
but I don't fit in her society
Lord have mercy on the boy
from down in the boondocks

Billy Joe Royal - "Down in the Boondocks"
