Gosford Park was an OK movie but diappointing as a mystery. It had a great cast of characters, but that was about it.

The other movie on your list I'd like to comment on is Name of the Rose. the movie is nothing and boring compared to the fantastic book. Read the book.

I agree the movie lacked something because there was so much to cram into it, but I had problems with all the philosophical discussions in the book. In the end, when I got to a bit like that, I had to skip over it and find the (excellent) storyline again and hope I didn't miss anything too vital. But those bits were just too BORING for me.

I like the Thirty Nine steps (1939) version of Hitchcock. Scream was a whodunnit, though it's a fusion of two genres: the horror movie as spoof and the whoodunnit and Craven has rightly spawned imitations in this direction. The Rosary Murders with Donald Sutherland was great too, in terms of the suspense. Others? Hmmm, there's 'A starnger in the house', ' Coppola's early 'Dementia 13', and 'Black X'mas' which starred Keir Dullea.

I liked "the Rosary Murders". Sutherland is always a pleasure to watch. I'm entirely in love with "the 39 steps" Not so much as a who-dunnit, but the atmosphere and the fine humour is great. Hitchçock's "the Lady Vanishes" ain't half bad either.

Don't forget "Sleuth" by Mankiewicz [sp?] and "Don't Look Now" [again with Sutherland] and David Mamet's "House of Games"

I liked Sleuth - that the one with Sutherland and Jane Fonda? I thought their chemistry was really great. I missed 'Don't Look Now', though I think this is the one where a couple gets involved with a whole lot of strange things going on, spooky stuff, can you recall it was about in terms of plot? I do know that this movie starred Julie Christie and Sutherland.

House of Games sounds interesting, because I like David Mamet especially. He is a great playwright as well and the man also holds the much envied distinction of co-writing the Script for Brian De Palma's "The Untouchables'. What's House of Games about anyway?

Tim; *giggle* I believe that was 'Klute'. 'Sleuth' is with Michael Caine and sir Laurence Olivier. well, it rhymes. :o)

'Don't look now' is about a couple who lose a child by drowning. They go to Venice to forget, meet two paranormal sisters who warn the wife [Christie] of another death. Sutherland - who's feeling guilty about the drowning- thinks he sees his child in the streets of Venice.

I won't go on. I'll spoil it. It gave me the creeps, though.

Lindsay Grouse [sp?] - Mamet's wife - Plays a psychiatrist who's trying to help her patient [Joe Mantegna] a con-man. She learns his tricks and a lot more............... Very dark movie.

On that list above, I haveto say, The Last of Sheila is AWESOME. One of the best whodunnits I've seen. Plus it's a cool early 70s mod film to boot!!! The one movie I'm surprised not to see, and no one has mentioned is DeathTrap. Excellent play, excellent movie. !

Isn't that House of Cards, daffodil?

Another great one by Mamet is "The Spanish Prisoner." Anyone see that? Personally, I loved it.

Could not agree more about movie "The Last of Sheila." Now that was really a good mystery with a stellar cast to boot.

"The Last Seduction" for nitty gritty film noir (modern).

"Wild Things" for enough twists and turns for anyone's liking.
