A Riddle By AJ Nicolas

Hey all at MN...rookie to forum here.

This is actually for a murder mystery dinner party I'm planning and so would also appreciate comments on how easy, hard, etc. you considered the riddle: I don't want everyone to be able to solve it, but also wouldn't be any fun if nobody solved it either.

Note that there will be a 'mixed bag' at the dinner party with many (though intelligent people in my opinion) not necessarily mystery buffs, please keep in mind when commenting.

Thanks in advance to all.

The answer to the riddle is a potential murder weapon

You can find it in a small town barber shoppe but not a big city salon,

You can see it in the pure moonlight but not the glow of dawn,

You're getting close if you listen closely to the tide,

Even closer if you were by Muhammadís side,

If you still havenít got it, think of opposing sides in a war,

Look to ancient history, the answer is in Spartan lore.

What is the murder weapon?

ANSWER: ROPE

You can find it in a small town barber shoppe but not a big city salon,

The letters in rope can be found the phrase 'in small town barber shoppe' but not in the phrase 'a big city salon'.

You can see it in the pure moonlight but not the glow of dawn,

The letters in rope are in the phrase 'the pure moonlight', but not in the phrase 'the glow of dawn'

You're getting close if you listen closely to the tide,

LISTEN to the tide...tied as in by a rope is a synonym for tide.

Even closer if you were by Muhammadís side,

Muhammad Ali the boxer...if you were by his side in the ring, there are 'ropes' around the ring.

If you still havenít got it, think of opposing sides in a war,

As in tug-a-war.

Look to ancient history, the answer is in Spartan lore.

The letters in rope are in the phrase 'Spartan lore'.
