The Jodi Arias Case

The first-degree murder trial of Jodi Arias, who is accused of the brutal killing of her one-time boyfriend, Travis Alexander, will outline the twists and turns in the investigation into his 2008 death, as well as Arias different versions of exactly what happened during their brief relationship.

Investigators say that in the June of 2008 Arias, 32, stabbed Alexander 27 times, slit his throat and shot him in the head at his Mesa, Ariz., home. Arias, who has been locked up since her arrest, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Since her arrest later that summer, Arias has denied any involvement in the crime, implicated others, and eventually claimed self defense after years of abuse. Her trial, which began Jan. 2, will outline what prosecutors say was a fatal attraction that led to a young man's bloody death. If convicted, Arias will become the fourth woman on Arizona's death row.

In September 2006, Jodi Arias, 28, and Travis Alexander, 30, met at a work conference in Las Vegas. Arias, who had been living in Yreka, Calif., says they fell in love, traveled the country together, and to strengthen her ties to the devout Mormon, she converted to his religion. But Alexander's friends say that after dating a few months he tried to break it off.

As the trial opened on Jan, 2, prosecutors describing Alexander as a "good man," who was seduced and then stalked by Arias, and killed by her in a jealous rage when she learned he was dating other women.

The couple only dated a few months. In June 2007, Alexander and Arias split up, though they maintained a sexual relationship.

"There's nothing about her that I see in marriage material -- or wife material," Alexander said, according to his friend, Dave Hall.

Defense attorney Jennifer Wilmot said there was another reality that Arias was Alexander's "dirty little secret." Despite his efforts to portray himself as a good man and good Mormon, he was secretly pushing her to have a sexual relationship with him, she said.

In April 2008 Arias had had enough, according her defense team, and moved back to California. Wilmot said it wasn't Arias who roped Alexander back in, it was actually Alexander who couldn't let her go, and he kept pressuring her to stay in contact with him.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez told the court that it's clear that Arias murdered Alexander.

"This is not a case of whodunit," Martinez told the court on Jan. 2. "The whodunit sits in court today "She rewarded [his] love by sticking a knife in his chest. She slit his throat as a reward for being a good man."

Willmont maintains that her client was abused and controlled by Alexander, who she claims was a sexual deviant. Willmott showed the jury a t-shirt she says he made Arias wear, with lettering that says "Travis Alexander's."

"That t-shirt is the perfect example of how Travis treated her," she said.

After his body was discovered, police found a camera in Alexander's washing machine. They say Arias was literally trying to wash away the evidence.

Found on the camera's memory card were pictures of their final sexual encounter, shots of Alexander in the shower seconds before he was killed and pictures that appeared to be taken accidently when the camera was dropped. One of the images shows Alexander's bloody body, and another shows Arias actually dragging his body across the ground.

On July 9, 2008 -- her 29th birthday -- a grand jury in California indicted Arias on first-degree murder charges in Alexander's death. She entered a not guilty plea at her arraignment on Sept. 11, 2008.

In a series of jailhouse interviews since her arrest, Arias repeatedly changed her story. First she denied being at Alexander's house the night of the murder, but two weeks later, she told the TV show "Inside Edition" she was there.

"I witnessed Travis being attacked by two other individuals," she said, "Who were they? I don't know."

Now she admits to killing Alexander, but says she had to after he attacked her when she dropped his new camera.

On Jan. 3, 2012, Marie "Mimi" Hall was the first witness to take the stand in Arias' trial. Hall met Alexander through their Mormon church ward. Though they went on one date, there was no spark. They remained friends.

Alexander invited Hall on one of his work retreats to Cancun, Mexico, and she agreed to go as friends. They were supposed to leave on the June 10, 2008, but when she had not heard from him in a few days, she told the court she got worried because she knew that he had a stalker -- Jodi Arias.

Hall testified that Alexander told her that he had had his tires slashed several times, had been sent threatening emails, followed on dates with other women, had his bank accounts broken into, and that Arias snuck through his doggy door and slept on his couch at night. None of these alleged incidents were reported to the police.

On June 9, 2008, Hall said that she decided to contact Melissa Lowery and Dallin Forres, who then went to Alexander's house, where they found his roommate home with his girlfriend.

The roommate and one of the friends entered Alexander's locked room while Mimi and another woman remained outside. She said that upon entering they said there was blood everywhere and then came running out saying he's dead, he's dead. She ran outside and called 911.

You can check out anytime you like...but you can never leave!

This is the first thing I have read about this case. I can't imagine how she can explain the evidence taken from the camera.

It sounds like a case of "If at first you don't succeed, lie, lie again".

Yes! I am the old lol Bella Wanella had a stroke and lost my password soooo ...

Thank you Fran, I have so much to say I could write a book. First she is as guilty as sin of pre meditated murder because she would never be his wife married in the LDS Temple Forever! IMHO Arias is a physcopath with NO real feelings but her own selfishness.

Is she guilty of pre-meditated murder? Heck yes! Here are the facts:

1. Jodi was angry that Travis was taking another girl to Cancun and he had told her she was a stalker and to stay away from him. Jodi then rented a car but not in her hometown ... she had a friend drive her over a hundred miles away to rent a car where there were no witnesses. The Rental car people said that Jodi had a fit when she saw that the car was Red .. she said that she wanted a silver non noticible car. she was not happy until they found her a plain car. Then before she entered Arizona Jodi bought gas and filled 3 gas tanks to store in her trunk so she would not have to be recorded as buying gas in Arizona. She turned her tag upside down and claims that some skateboarders removed her tag and she didn't notice that she had put it back on upside down. The prosecutor claims that the non noticble car and the upside down tag were her attempts to avoid having her noticed and her tag taken.

Then when Jodi arrived at his house she snuck in the side door and came up behind Travis on his computer. She pleaded and seduced him into having sex and getting naked in the shower. Then she brutally slaughtered him. She claims self-defense because he tried to kill her for dropping his camera. Her self defense she claims needed 28 stab wounds and a slit throat that almost beheaded him and shot him in the head with her grandfather's 22 that he reported stolen. Arias was at that time living with her Grandparents because she had become unmanageable by her parents.

As for the landslide by the defense to trash Travis and claim he was abusive to the point that he deserved killing... for those that do not know about Mormon beliefs let me explain. There is a good reason that Travis wanted far away from her and why he kept her a secret. Mormons are frequently brought in for interviews with the Bishop and his 2 couselors. Each man is asked if he is sexually active or pleasing himself ... then if he says yes he is disfellowshipped from the Church and not allowed to participate in taking sacrament and everybody knows he did some sin to deserve this. Parents of Mormon young men would be shamed and they would be thought so little of that any young man who's family is LDS would rather not have to face the shame he would bring his family. For those of you that don't know the highest achievement that a Mormon can have is a Temple Recommend that allows that person to go to the Temple .. they are given out only to a Mormon that has passed his or her interviews with two or three leaders and have been found worthy to go to the Temple. All "good" Mormon young people should be married IN the Temple where their family members who HOLD a Temple Recommend can be present to view their Temple Wedding. You can not imagine the shame that is put on a prominent active Mormon Family when their son or daughter cannot be married in the Temple. That is why Travis wanted to distance himself from Jodi she would continue to seduce the young man and surely cost him his right to get a Temple Recommend. That last day he gave in to Jodi's seduction one last time and she killed him with the gun she stole from her Grandfather and a butcher knife from the kitchen. Jodi was angry that Travis ended their relationship and was taking a female that he wanted to marry to Cancun. She shot him she stabbed him 28 times half in his back. and then she cut his throat to finish him off. Then she ran and lied and lied and lied. Even if he was a jerk which I do not believe Travis did not deserve to die.

Ask me any questions that you like.

Yes! I am the old lol Bella Wanella had a stroke and lost my password soooo ...

I swear this case is dragging on and on and on! I am so afraid that some ridiculous error will allow her to get away with her slaughter of Travis.

For over a week now they have allowed a woman who is neither a Psychatrist or Psychologist and only a Masters in Domestic Abuse to rattle on and on day after day about how Jodi was an abused woman!! Seriously all she used for her evaluation was ONLY what Jodi TOLD her and what Jodi wrote in her journals. REALLY!!! She was allowed to go on and on and trash and demean Travis with no other input!!! She based everything on the words of a proven pathological liar! BUT day after day after day the jury had the words Travis was a ba*tard and abuser from ONLY Jodi who is trying to claim self defense sooo naturally she would say the worst things possible about Travis! Right!

I fear that if only one jurist is confused they will give her second degree murder not the 1st Degree murder that she commited !!

I watched Casey Anthony get away with killing her little girl in shock and disbelief. and OJ too I am so tired of obvious murderers getting off free!!

What do think?
