So strange, my 3 nephews grew up with me and their mother, we never smoked and neither did their dad. They all had allergy problems when younger, still do but won't admit it, and all 3 started smoking at different times. You'd think losing their grandfather who could barely breath at the end of his life, seeing my Mom cough and having to use an inhaler would have had some impact, but they all smoke...even when they have no money, they have cigs. I'm still snacking, but trying to be better about it. I am not even trying to deal with the insomnia, my pattern is up to around 3 or 4am...sometimes until 5 or 6...with light dozing during the late night early morning. If I have to be somewhere, I will take some Ambien to help. I lost height due to spine curvatures, have 2 of them and I'm sure age as well. Seems the only time I don't give in to the munchies is when I'm dealing with pain, but my brain still thinks about it...weird!

You would think that would have taught me too. My dad died of lung cancer and so did a beloved brother of mine and those who didn't have it in the lung had it elsewhere, so it was just crazy for me to smoke but I was already smoking when all that happened. Things have changed so much though. I cannot believe I smoked at home when the kids were growing up. I stopped smoking in the house years ago and never smoked in front of the grandkids so at least I wised up that far. I'm liking not spending that kind of money on cigarettes anymore now that gasoline is so high and plain old American cheese is $7 a pound!

I cannot believe I bought corned beef, real stuff to cook, not the canned variety...has the seasonings and directions and this can get interesting. Got to have cabbage and corned beef. My grandmother's version was to cook canned corn beef with cut up cabbage. I've bought shredded slaw, plan to add some bell pepper and onion. Never made soda bread, usually make cornbread. Sunday we have a lunch at church, got to make taco meat and spanish rice.

I never tried the canned corn beef. They are not big fans here so I've only made corn beef and cabbage a few times. We prefer ham and cabbage. I add potatoes and carrots and a large onion to mine.

Went down to local pub to watch Wisconsin & Marquette in NCAA tourney on Saturday as times overlapped.....pub sported free cb & cabbage....had a short case of the runs next mornin'.

Can't say I liked the corned beef...but the stir fried slaw/onion/green pepper was good. The cats will enjoy the rest of the beef. We had texmex yesterday, which usually doesn't bother me, but haven't felt well most of this week. Been sick all day, long case of "the runs" as WT put it! Also been storming most of the day. So hungry for something sweet but don't dare. May try some applesauce later!
