love all of sherlock holmes mysteries but i especially like the hound of the baskervilles. that book is beautifully written...so many tiny little plots in one book. and among the short stories i like the one 'the mystery of the dancing men' especially for the way watson describes the husband. the human element is really good in these books. it is not just abt solving the crime based on clues, it is also abt how holmes constantly thinks of the safety of his clients and how he appreciates the strengths of their character. and unlike most detectives, he uses disguises to the hilt.

TARDIS Express; When it absolutely, positively HAS to be there before you mail it!

the weird thing about holmes is when conan-doyle give ALL the clues, the mysteries are easy. lions mane and hound of the baskervilles comes to mind. mostly holmes is running around sending off telegrams and some such and we have no idea what the answers are :( i NEVER read holmes for the mysteries, i read them for the atmosphere, conan-doyle was a really good writer. not brilliant, but good!

I myself absolutely love all sherlock holmes stories. I do read all of Laurie Kings novels and think that they are wonderful. My favorite holmes character is Sherlock himself. I have read all the Mycroft Holmes books also. He is a very seditery but brilliant mind. I also watch all the Holmes movies on dvd. I find mystery fascinating.

Sherlock Holmes is my favorite. It does require a fair understanding of the traditions of that era for full participation of the reader though.

the game's afoot!!

ok, heres my personal theory...whenever i picture holmes in my mind, i see the actor Hugh Laury (he plays the character House) anyone agree? also, the character he plays on house is similar to holmes in that they have the same way of thinking, and somewhat similar personalities...any thoughts?

He's such a gentleman. An actor(in "The dying detective"). I pity Watson sometimes. He's always surprised by Holmes next moves.

"Come at once if convenient - if inconvenient come all the same. " Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes, in my opinion, is the best detective of all time. I always wish I had his mind! I particularly like the Hound of the Baskervilles. A very good story.

My favorite story is "The Adventure of the Empty House"! Sherlock Holmes is back after a decade (or 2 years in his time)!

Jeferson Nanao - 12:56am Apr 21, 2007 PST(#981 of 997)

I love all Sherlock Holmes Stories. I don't have any particular favorites. Sherlock Holmes is so great. I wish I can deduce and observe like him!

I love Sherlock Holmes, but my favorite character in the series is the too littly mentioned Mycroft Holmes. He was the one who helped Sherlock go into hiding when Moriarty tries to push him off the cliff. If it wasn't for him, Moriarty's henchmen might have found Sherlock.

I too am a huge fan of Sherlock,(I have The Complete Sherlock Holmes with all of Doyle's Holmes stories) but i am fortunate enough to have the powers of deduction that he has (i have to work on my observation skills) but i am often able to solve the mysteries before i read their conclusions.
